Drug use is a serious and dangerous habit. Beyond using a prescription medication the way in which it has been prescribed to you by a doctor, you should be very cautious before engaging in drug use.
There are different types of drugs, such as stimulants, depressants, and hallucinogens, all producing different effects on the body. The negative effects include deterioration of the heart muscle, loss of motor function, depression, and impaired sexual response. Drug use can be harmful not only to you, but also the people around you.
The line between use and abuse when it comes to drugs is very fine. Often with drugs, you can build tolerance, needing more and more of the drug over time to produce the desired effect. Also, you can become physically dependant, where your body builds a dependency on the drug to function, or psychologically dependant, where you think you cannot function without the drug.
If you or someone you know is using drugs to the point that it is affecting health, relationships, school, work, or athletic performance, or finances, there may be a problem. It's time to seek help. It's better to confront any issues now, rather than down the road when they may be much more serious.
